Hanna Peterson (she/her)

Hanna Peterson

Background

Feeling truly seen and heard can spark profound growth and healing. This lesson from my professional and personal experiences sparked my passion for mental health and supporting others. Diverse personal and academic experiences have shaped my approach to counselling, including my time abroad at Humboldt University’s Mind and Brain program in Berlin. The city’s vibrancy and acceptance deeply influence my practice, where I celebrate diversity and create open, inclusive work through self-acceptance. I am grateful to hold registration with the BCACC as a Registered Clinical Counsellor, as well as a Master’s degree in Counselling from City University in Vancouver and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Counselling from the University of British Columbia.

When I am not counselling, you’ll likely find me walking my giant dog, enjoying karaoke nights, or exploring new foods. As a proud member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, I am deeply committed to supporting and advocating for Queer, non-monogamous, and kink-positive individuals. I understand the unique challenges that come with these identities and aim not just to address immediate concerns, but to empower my clients to embrace their authentic selves and build fulfilling, meaningful lives. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or identity questions, I am here to support you on your journey.

Therapeutic Approach

My approach is centered on helping you tap into your natural strength and capacity for healing. I work collaboratively with clients, tailoring therapy to your unique needs by integrating research-based methods such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Approaches and Gottman Method (Level 2 Certified) for relationship therapy. My trauma-informed framework ensures that we explore your experiences with care and understanding, respecting the pace that feels right for you. I strive for the therapy room to be a space where you can feel safe enough to explore your emotions, challenge harmful patterns, and cultivate deeper connections in your relationships.

While working together, we will build on your inherent abilities and values. Therapy with me is not just about solving problems but also about embracing the process of self-discovery and relationship fulfillment. Whether you’re seeking individual counselling or relationship therapy, we will focus on creating practical, achievable changes that align with your goals to foster both emotional healing and personal growth.
