Leifennie Ang
Background
Malaysia and raised in both Malaysia and Indonesia, I’ve had the privilege of traveling to various countries before settling in Vancouver in 2017. I’m continually learning to embrace my Chinese and Southeast Asian heritage. I hold a master’s degree in counseling from City University in Vancouver, where I focused my capstone project on thriving after betrayal. Before my counselling career, I was actively involved in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera.
Through my own challenges, I have developed a deep appreciation for the complexities of the human experience in today’s world. I believe we all possess the innate ability for individual and collective healing. However, societal pressures can make it difficult for us to express ourselves fully, take accountability for our actions, and live in alignment with our values. In response, we often create boundaries to protect ourselves from perceived harm. My role is to create a safe space for you to explore your experiences and discover your unique path to wellness and wholeness.
Therapeutic Approach
I work with clients to explore, understand, and redefine early childhood experiences that continue to shape their present behavior. Together, we identify and dismantle limiting beliefs that hinder connection and growth, allowing us to embody new truths that foster a compassionate relationship with ourselves and others. As we work toward clarity and authenticity, we expand our capacity for emotional attunement and embrace the complexities of being human. We’ll foster a safe space for conflicting thoughts and feelings to be heard and validated, creating an environment where creative perspectives and decisions can emerge. We’ll shift your inner dialogue to reflect greater loving-kindness and compassion. We’ll discuss the impacts of significant life changes and how to navigate them. Additionally, we’ll harmonize the influences of personal culture with the dominant culture. My goal is to support you in moving from awareness to actionable strategies that you can apply in your life.
My therapeutic style focuses on equipping you with the skills to feel anchored in your own capability to self-lead so you can increase your capacity to attend to the different parts of you. I aim to help you develop the relational skills in making choices that foster connected and meaningful relationships. To achieve this, I integrate and draw from various therapeutic modalities such as mindfulness-based therapy, somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I aim to maintain an affirming, inclusive, and supportive practice that embraces people of all genders, sexual orientations, neurodiversity, backgrounds, ethnicities, and religious beliefs. I deeply respect and honor your intersectionality.
