Background

My name is Nora Clarke (she/her), and I am both honoured and excited to be a graduate counsellor at Avery Therapy Centre while completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University. I grew up in Ottawa and started my academic journey more than twenty years ago with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Carleton University, soon after which I took a detour to travel and seek out adventure, while tackling some large life challenges. These roads led me to the Sea to Sky corridor in 2006, where I happily settled in and completed a Master of Science in Psychology with Walden University, while holding jobs in early childhood development as well as in the service industry. I am now the mom of a very busy toddler, and we spend most of our time exploring nature and ripping around on our bikes. I also enjoy running, gardening, working out, cooking, painting, and playing in the mountains.

I have always had a very healthy respect for psychology and a desire to become a therapist. I truly feel that this passion, combined with my life experiences of trauma, anxiety, and depression, have helped me gain a deep understanding of my own road to healing while also fostering a genuine compassion and empathy for the lived experiences and healing journeys of those around me.

Therapeutic Approach

I enter into each unique therapeutic relationship with compassion, understanding, and openness while ensuring a safe space that fosters mutual respect and unconditional positive regard and is free of judgment. Life has the habit of throwing some major curveballs our way, and I believe that we are each the expert in our own lives and hold the capacity to overcome these challenges. I would be truly honoured and appreciative of the chance to share in your experiences while helping to guide you through the waters.

When beginning a therapeutic relationship with me, you can look forward to being provided with an integrative therapeutic approach that is honest, person-centered, collaborative, and trauma-informed, meeting you wherever you are on your therapeutic/healing/life journey. Therapeutic approaches are not a one-size-fits-all, and I will work with you to develop a unique approach that best suits your individual needs by exploring and incorporating a variety of therapeutic orientations while tapping into your strengths and abilities.
